The Syrena live in the ocean and have some very strict rules about interacting with humans, all with the goal of protecting themselves. When Galen, who is given some leeway due to his loyal human contacts, runs into Emma, they’re set on a path that neither expects.
I don’t read a lot of merfolk, romance fiction. That being said, I loved this. The characters are solid, the story is well-paced and complex, hard to put down. The romance isn’t muddied up with a love triangle, and though there’s a strong pull between the main characters, it’s not insta-love.
Fans of YA, mythology and modern times, all melded together, will probably like this.
I borrowed the audiobook from the library. I very much enjoyed the performance by the narrator. Very high quality and well paired with the story.
