I am so totally hooked on this series and am hoping the Fae/Darkness War will go on forever. Never thought I’d say that about war but this series does that to me. Thank goodness it’s a fictional war.
LJ DeLeon is an author on a mission. She currently has three books released in the Warrior for Light Series with more to come. Ms DeLeon has changed it up in each book so I don’t know what to expect next. I do expect she will have my undivided attention when her next book releases, hopefully soon. I have fallen in love with indie authors and one of the reasons is the quality of novels Ms DeLeon is putting out. I am no longer afraid to take a chance on an author just because they self publish.
Her latest entry in the Warrior for Light Series is Absolution. This is a very powerful novella. While short in length, it more than makes up for in the depth of the characters and their emotions. Absolution by definition is to set free from the consequences of guilt. Talk about guilt. Druid Lucan Woods (whom we met in the first of the series, Warrior’s Rise), is being eaten alive for an act he finds so unforgivable that he seeks absolution in the only way he can. He volunteers to search out missing Fae Princess Alanna and doesn’t expect to return from his search. If the mission doesn’t kill him, Lucas will take care of it himself. One more tidbit before I spoil the story aspect. Alanna is searching for her twin daughters. She’s spent years believing they were dead. How could a mother not know her children were still a part of the living. She has her own guilt to deal with. Two wounded souls searching…..
As I mentioned, all three books are very different based on the individuals being featured. Ms DeLeon doesn’t miss a beat though in getting and keeping the reader’s attention. I think the hardest kind of novel to write is one that deals primarily with the emotional aspects of the characters. She writes action very well but the depth of her writing comes through in how she can make the reader emotionally invested in the story. From the very beginning of this novella, my stomach was tied into little knots. I thoroughly empathized with both Lucan and Alanna. Their emotions and how they dealt with them came through loud and I mean LOUD, and clear. I’ll bet you’re thinking, okay, so there’s a bunch of emotion, blah. Believe me, there are boat loads of action to go along with all the feelings involved. This little novella starts with a hand on your throat and when you finish you’ll feel like you’ve been put through the proverbial ringer. Lots of eye opening surprises along the way too. Saying that, DO NOT start this series here. Enjoy the other two, Warrior’s Rise and Dragon Child first. You’ll be more than glad you did.
